The Ox
For a healthy helping and a great hangover cure, The Ox on Broughton Street is famed in Edinburgh for its Sunday Roast. Feast on roast beef rib-eye served with roast potatoes, creamed leeks, roast carrot, green beans and sprouting broccoli. Accompany with a bloody Mary or Bloody Nora (Bombay Gin, Tomato Juice, Beetroot Juice), available in single or double measures, depending on your Saturday night sins. Even better, roast dinner here is served until 8.30pm!

Bistro du Vin
If you love a Sunday lunch, this one’s a real find. The Sunday roast at Hotel Du Vin is three courses (£39.95 per person, £10.95 for children under 12), served buffet style for starters with an unlimited French table laden with seafood, salads and charcuterie, followed by a perfectly-cooked roast (and we mean perfectly cooked) with all the trimmings. A live jazz session plays on the last Sunday of every month. Everything needed for a sense of occasion.

Kyloe
Hailed the best Sunday roast by many in the know, the Kyloe Sunday roast is served from 12.30 until 5pm. Book by the Friday before at 4pm for two, four, or you and five friends for the ultimate feed. That’s your own joint of borders roast rib of beef carved at the table, Yorkshire puddings, duck fat roasted potatoes, pan gravy, roasted organic root vegetables, creamed cabbage, hot horseradish cream and a sticky toffee pudding to share.
The Broughton
‘When it’s done, it’s done’. So it says on the menu, that’s how you know The Broughton takes Sunday lunch seriously. They’ve distilled the essence of the classic Sunday roast down to two heart-wrenching options: Roast aged beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, glazed carrot, and red wine gravy, and herb roast chicken with Brussels sprouts, duck fat roast potatoes, glazed carrot, and gravy. We suggest you get both. Not even joking.
Bon Vivant
A long time favourite since it opened its doors in the noughties there’s a lot to like about Bon Vivant on Thistle Street. It’s small, informal, and intimate. The food offering is packed with flavour and the Sunday roast is no exception. You can choose from roast Scotch rump cap, Scottish pork belly, Roast cod, lamb, or cauliflower steak, served with all the traditional trimmings. There’s also the option to pop next door to the Bon Vivant Companion to pick up a bottle of wine and enjoy it wth your meal.

The King’s Wark
Sunday Roast at the King’s Wark is awesome. It’s easy to while away a Sunday afternoon in this 15th century exposed brick gastro pub on the Shore. Even more so when the open fire is roaring. The talented team places real emphasis on fresh produce, meat, game and local sustainable seafood, as well as cracking cask ales. And their Sunday Roast offering is nicely at home. Sunday roast here is so popular that booking a table is crucial and you may even want to pre-order your meal to avoid disappointment.
Queens Arms
The Queens Arms, a homely pub full of locals on Frederick Street, has a steady reputation for its Sunday offering. If you trust your dining companion enough to know you’ll definitely get your fair share, then a sharing roast for £45, boasting 14 ounces of roast beef is just the ticket. Especially when it comes with a sharing dessert too. Both the single and sharing roasts come with cauliflower cheese as standard so we can confirm they know how to do a Sunday roast here.
Nobles
Apart from the excellent silverside on offer at Nobles in Leith, the big bonus is you can enjoy a Nobles Sunday roast into the evening. Sunday Roast is available from 3pm, just as other venues are running low. That’s when Nobles steps in to deliver a great roast beef or vegetarian nut roast with all the trimmings. There’s no rush here to enjoy a leisurely Sunday afternoon in classy but informal surroundings.
