Thanks to new arrival, Coco, life has changed. Walks are now a full on search for other like-minded puppies who are happy to chase, sniff, chew and tire out each other. Finding shoes in pairs is a cause for celebration, and the long lazy lunch is a thing of the past. Or so I thought, until I discovered that Edinburgh is a veritable treasure chest of brilliant dog friendly bars and restaurants. So in no particular order, we’ve picked the best dog friendly restaurants in Edinburgh.
1. Scran & Scallie
Brilliant, fine dining pub grub. Dog friendly and extra bonus- a playroom for the kids. Job done. 1 Comely Bank Road, Stockbridge, EH4 1DR
2. Rabble Taphouse and Grill
Great choice of dishes, low key vibes and some excellent gins to boot. Plus they love dogs.
55A Frederick St, EH2 1LH
3. Gaucho
If you like your steak done exceptionally well, this is the place. Your dog may never recover from the plethora of juicy steak smells, but she will be welcomed. A doggy bag to go, please. 4a St Andrew Square, EH2 2BD
4. Toast Leith
This fine wine café on the water of Leith is a big favourite with us. Excellent drinks and cocktails, and food with Mediterranean influences. 65 The Shore, EH6 6RA
5. The Lioness of Leith
Home of Burger Mama, the best gourmet burgers in town. Doggies get biscuits too (but sadly not burgers). 21-25 Duke Street, EH6 8HH
6. Teuchters Landing
Brilliant pub with delicious food, they don’t let dogs inside but they love them outside in the large beer garden and bothy which is covered and heated. 1c Dock Pl, Leith, EH6 6LU
