We have some key requirements when we eat out as a family of three: decent food that both grown-ups and children will appreciate, an ambience and buzz so we don’t need to create our own (!) and a decent wine list that doesn’t require an overdraft. Added points if there is some outdoor space for the almost tween to explore. So, a big round of applause for Eve which ticks every box.
Friends join us for a relaxed lunch and hit the ground running with excellent grapefruit spritz cocktails (£15), and nibbles and starters to share. We chose a creamy yet light burrata (£13), served with a moreish capanata and balsamic reduction. The arancini was given a cheeky kick from the ‘nduja (£8), and the calamari was crisp and al dente(£10). We devoured the lot.
The children made the most of the fun outdoor terrace, joining us for food and then disappearing off to play. Meanwhile a very welcome bottle of the Prosecco (£45) and a lovely Pinot Grigio (£35) helped us idle away a relaxed afternoon.
Pizza was the order of the day for the kids – margherita (£12) and Posh pepperoni (£14) were declared ‘amazing’ which, for context, is a significant upgrade from the ubiquitous ‘fine’ which covers all and any question these days. Adults opted for the carbonara for two, mixed
and served at the table. The theatrical flourish added a sense of occasion whilst the price (£16 per person) felt like good value for the rich and creamy dish.
Desserts for those who could manage them were delicious. A cannoli (£7) with sweet ricotta, Amarena cherry and chocolate was divine and the stunning tiramisu looked as good as it tasted. (£11).
Eve was a lovely surprise. A friendly Italian restaurant with good food and wine. What’s not to love?
